How it works

The finder only suggests plants from our published plant profiles, and every reason it gives comes from a field on that profile.

  • Light is a hard filter: a plant is shown only if its profile says it tolerates the light you describe.
  • If pets can reach the plant, only plants a cited source lists as non-toxic to cats and dogs are shown. A plant with no checked pet-safety source is never treated as safe.
  • Outdoor suggestions need your USDA hardiness zone and a cited zone range on the profile.
  • Care level and humidity then order the list. Up to six plants are shown, with caveats.

What it can't do

It knows only the plants in our directory, which is still small. It doesn't use plant size yet, because our profiles don't record it consistently. A plant that suits your answers can still struggle in a particular spot, so check its full profile before you buy.
